Nico’s Mexican Food has been serving the San Diego Ocean Beach community with fresh, delicious, and authentic Mexican food since 1982. Started by Nicolas “Nico” Carreon and his wife Catalina over 36 years ago, Nico’s has been a family operation since the beginning. Due to limited means, the entire Carreon family participated in running Nico’s, building it into what is now a locals and San Diego visitor favorite in Ocean Beach.

Today, Nico’s son Jose Carreon owns and operates Nico’s and continuing to work at the family business as he did when he was a child. Ocean Beach residents still talk about Nicolas and his iconic cowboy hat. Nicolas was known for his hat and it still resides at the restaurant in a display case over the register. Jose keeps the hat on display as a constant reminder of the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice his father made to build Nico’s into the great Mexican food restaurant it is today.
